## Leading World IA Day 2026 global production As co-president of the World Information Architecture Association (WIAA), I lead the global production of World IA Day's annual celebration. This involves determining the global theme, managing communications, recruiting and supporting local organizers across multiple cities worldwide, and providing infrastructure and resources to ensure a cohesive, unified event experience. While this work traditionally falls under the role of global executive producer, I've stepped in to fulfill these responsibilities in the absence of volunteers for that position. **Project duration:** June 2025 - March 2026 ## Supporting organizers through platform migration and brand alignment World IA Day operates as a decentralized global event, with local organizers independently managing their city celebrations. The challenge is maintaining a cohesive, unifying theme and brand experience across all participating locations while providing organizers with the resources and infrastructure they need to succeed. For the 2026 event cycle, this was complicated by a platform migration from Drupal to GitBook, requiring content migration for all participating locations while simultaneously supporting new and returning organizers. ## From theme selection to organizer enablement ### Theme development and selection - Designed and implemented the survey to collect theme suggestions from the global board and past WIAD organizers via newsletters - Created a shortlist in collaboration with co-president and solicited feedback from the global board, synthesized feedback and drafted the theme announcement for review - Published theme announcement. See https://www.information-architecture.world/blog/2025/27-jul-2025-world-information-architecture-day-2026-on-designing-for-meaning ### Organizer recruitment and onboarding - Updated Call for locations application form and streamlined collection process - Redesigned onboarding workflow to accommodate platform transition from Coda to Clickup - Developed organizer CRM system in Clickup to track recruitment, onboarding status, and ongoing support needs (first attempt) ### Infrastructure and platform migration - Prioritized content migration for WIAD26 participating locations (20) and developed URL redirection strategy to preserve SEO value - Created SEO metadata for optimizing microsites for participating WIAD26 locations that haven't set up their own websites - Setting up access for Google Workspace, GitBook, Canva for organizers ### Ongoing organizer support - Regular check-ins and communications with local teams. At least once monthly. ## Resources and systems supporting 20+ global celebrations - **Global theme and visual identity** for World IA Day 2026 - **Event microsite content** migrated to GitBook platform - **Organizer resources and guidelines** for local event planning - **Communication systems** including email templates, surveys, and automated workflows for organizer support using Clickup - **Location onboarding materials** for new participating cities - **Coordinated global programming** across 20+ participating cities including Vancouver, Los Angeles, London, Palermo, ToruĊ„, Philadelphia, Tokyo, Fukuoka, Des Moines, Nashville, Twin Cities, Eindhoven, and others ## Services Community leadership, strategic event coordination, content strategy and migration, stakeholder communications, platform implementation, resource development and documentation
